iPIX VR TOURS
What is iPIX?
iPIX images by Video Excellence Productions are totally immersive, interactive images viewable online or from a CD-ROM. They are completely 360 degrees in every direction so there are no "dead spots" as in panoramic images. Each iPIX image is produced from two high-quality 180 degrees flat images shot onsite by Video Excellence staff. The two images are then combined on a computer using sophisticated software to produce the iPIX "Full 360 degree" images.
The iPIX image allows you to click and drag your mouse to control movement around the image. The image will rotate depending on your mouse position, and with the appropriate click of the mouse, you can also zoom in and out.
This amazing technology creates images that download quickly, realistically show an entire environment, and can be viewed by anyone.
Again, iPIX images do not require a software plug-in -- lower- resolution Java-compatible images, like the ones on our sample page, can be viewed with any current generation Web browser. Using java-oriented script, gives ease of use and quick downloads from the internet, keeping your viewers interested in your website. As well the same image can be used in CD-ROMS and powerpoint presentations.

When to use iPIX vs VIDEO
Websites, the internet, and email services are all very sensitive to
- how much storage that an application might require,
- how much bandwidth will be available to view the application, and
- how long an application might take to download.
Digitized video downloaded or streaming from a website contains visual images, graphics, effects, narration and background music. This is a highly effective medium for many purposes. For some applications however, not all these options are required, nor may these be appropriate.
As an example, if a cameraperson video-panned a room in a complete circle (without zooming in/out), it might take 10 seconds, which at 30 frames (images) per second, equals 300 frames.... and in the video world, this equates to 300 megs (300,000Kb) of storage in uncompressed state, or 30 megs of storage in a highly compressed state. As well, the cameraperson controlled the panning rate.... which for some viewers might be too slow, or too fast. And the cameraperson also controlled whether to zoom or not. As well, a video's major drawback is that as duration (running time) of the video program increases, so does the storage requirement on the website, and the download time.
iPIX on the other hand, for that same room, uses only 2 highquality 180 degree flat images, which take between 50 to 150Kb of storage.... and the iPIX technology allows the viewer to control the rate of panning and zooming. |
